Abstract

The method of preparation of a highly purified antigen from rat skeletal muscle (myosin) and the procedure for preparing specific antisera have been described. The globulin fraction of the antisera was labeled to demonstrate selective staining of skeletal and cardiac muscles. The localization of apple-green fluorescence in muscle cells indicative of antigenic sites of myosin was obtained with chick and rat embryo muscle tissue. The data presented indicate that cardiac and skeletal muscle myosin cross-react and that the antigenicity of myosin is not species-specific.
