Abstract

Parrodi F., Wright I.G. and Dobson C. 1988. Immunity to Babesia microti in male mice selected as resistant or susceptible to Nematospiroides dubius. Internationaljournal for Parasitology 18: 539–541. Babesia microti parasitaemias in high-immune responder (H) mice were greater than in either the low-immune responder (L) or randomly bred (Rd) mice after a primary but not after a secondary infection. There was no apparent correlation between serum antibody titre and parasitaemia within and between any mouse strain during primary infection. High levels of IgG1 and lower levels of IgM isotype antibody were produced by all mouse lines. Genes which regulate protective immunity to N. dubius did not control the course of B. microti infections.
