Abstract

Immunity to renal infection by Leptospira interrogans serogroup Icterohaemorrhagiae was demonstrated in hamsters vaccinated with a ribosomal extract derived from a strain of the serogroup Icterohaemorrhagiae. The degree of renal protection was dependent upon the concentration of ribosomal material administered. Vaccinated animals died when challenged with serogroup Pomona or Canicola. Ribosome suspensions did not induce significant levels of agglutinating antibody.
