Abstract

The role of immunonutrition and the mechanisms by hich individual amino acids or combinations with other utrients improve immune status and modify disease proression is becoming better understood. The metabolic roperties of some key sulfur-containing amino acids and elated substrates, namely methionine (Met), cysteine (Cys), -acetyl cysteine (NAC), taurine (Tau), and the tripeptide lutathione (GSH), provide insights into their important unctions as nutraceuticals to formulate strategies for speialized nutrition support.
