Although cutaneous drug reactions are often discussed as allergic or manifestations of hypersensitivity, the role of the immune system in many drug reactions is not well understood. Toxic epidermal necrolysis (TEN) is a serious drug reaction thought by some to be immunologically mediated, and by others to be a reaction to toxic drug metabolites.
