Abstract

Our present study investigates the immune enhancing effects of JW15 on cyclophosphamide (CPM)-induced immunosuppression in BALB/c mice. In our previous study, we demonstrated the immune enhancing effects of Weissella cibaria JW15 (JW15) isolated from Kimchi (Korean traditional fermented vegetables) on macrophage cells and Listeria monocytogenes challenge model. The recovery levels of white blood cells and the mean spleen weight per body weight (g/kg) of JW15-treated group was significantly larger than that of the CPM-treated group. Moreover, JW15 administration enhanced the recovery of splenocyte proliferation in CPM-treated mice. In addition, JW15 supplementation stimulated the production of cytokines (TNF- α and IL-6) in splenocytes. Thus, JW15 could promote the ability from CPM-induced immunosuppression. In conclusion, W. cibaria JW15 exhibits the ability to induce immune-enhancing effects and could be a suitable functional food additive for humans and companion animals.
