Abstract

Sn–O–Zn nanoparticles were immobilized on glass surface for photocatalytic removal of Reactive Blue textile dye in water. Sn–O–Zn nanoparticles were prepared via sol–gel process using chloride precursors and citric acid as chelating agent with calcination temperature of 400 °C. Fourier transform infrared, X-ray diffraction (XRD), field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM) and UV–Vis diffuse reflectance spectroscopy (UV–Vis DRS) were used to characterize nanoparticles. XRD results showed the existence of cassiterite (tin oxide) with tetragonal structure and zincite with hexagonal structure. FTIR spectra revealed the presence of zinc-oxygen and tin-oxygen vibrations at 507 and 642 cm− 1 respectively. FESEM results showed nano particles with size of 46 nm. Solid state UV–Vis spectra showed absorbance in UV region at 215 and 248 nm. Immobilized Sn–O–Zn nanoparticles on glass surface showed good photocatalytic activity for removal of Reactive Blue textile dye in water.
