Abstract
Abstract A whole-body patient immobilization method is described consisting of a cast system employing a lightweight plaster mix poured around the patient, who is enclosed in removable shuttering. The separate portions of the immobilization casts are located on dowels inserted into the formica table used for making the casts. The patient may be irradiated on the formica table which can be transported on a trolley and slid on to the treatment couch or the separate portions of the casts can be positioned over identical dowels inserted into the treatment table top. In use, the system has functioned well for head and neck cases and for whole-body immobilization for the mantle technique. Whole-body immobilization is a basic necessity for automated treatment systems.
