Abstract

Immobilized enzymes and cells (1,2) should be of considerable economical and practical importance. Therefore, since 1976 we have been working on techniques for immobilization of microbial whole cells (3,4). Entrapment in gelatin and crosslinking with glutaraldehyde has been employed successfully for the immobilization of Echerichia coli D816 cells for penicillin acylase activity and Streptomyces roseofulus Kc 13–575 cells for glucose isomerase.
