Abstract

In this report, three representative cases of immediate implant placement (IIP) at infected periradicular sites have been described. Three patients with a previously endodontically treated hopeless tooth, who were referred by the Department of Conservative Dentistry, presented with a draining buccal sinus tract arising from a chronic periapical lesion. After a minimally traumatic tooth extraction, meticulous debridement of the extracted socket was performed followed by IIP with good primary stability. The gap between the implant and bone was filled with deproteinized bovine bone mineral containing 10% porcine collagen and collagen filler. A follow-up examination conducted 2 years after the procedure showed that IIP was successful, with the implants in good functional and esthetic condition without any clinical or radiographic sign of implant failure caused by the pre-existing periapical pathosis.
