Abstract

Introduction: Patellofemoral pain syndrome and osteoarthritis are common conditions affecting the knee. In both instances, pain is the cardinal symptom and it is thought that abnormal joint loads are related to pathological development. However, the influence of pain on knee joint loads is poorly understood. This study therefore investigated the effects of experimental pain on knee joint biomechanics during walking. Methodology: Nine healthy subjects (5 male; 4 female) were voluntarily recruited (age: 25.2±4.9 years; height: 1.7+0.1m; weight: 67.9+11.5kg).
