Abstract

The potential dangers of sun exposure to skin health, as well as the need for adequate sun protection, are well-documented in the literature. Sun protection has traditionally been seen as the application of chemical or physical sunscreens to the skin; however, a better understanding of skincare, and particularly photoprotective topicals, is affecting expert opinions on the best products to apply to protect against ultraviolet exposure. This paper is an update of a previous paper published by the author in 2013. It discusses the dermal effects of sun exposure and explores ways in which aesthetic nurses can support patients who wish to achieve a healthy glow.
