Abstract

Abstract In the life history of D. dorsalis the soil‐associated immatures suffered the highest mortality, compared to eggs and larvae in fruits. The most important group of mortality factors affecting immature survival in a village ecosystem were the soil factors. Weather condition of the soil played the most important role; wet and dry seasons were equally detrimental to the immatures. Soil factors killed 77.8% of the immatures. The second important group of mortality factors were the parasitoids which played an important role in affecting egg and larval survival in fruits. The effects of predators on immature survival were low. Other factors are also discussed.
