Abstract
This article is intended to study the two first stories by Adelaida Garcia Morales, El sur and Bene , as examples of lyric ‘novels of formation’ (Bildungsroman). In both cases the exploration of feelings and sensations is basic in a narrative that shows a clearly subjective form of world representation. Nevertheless, El sur revolves around an idealistic vision of the human being and human relationships, while Bene is a ‘Gothic tale’ in which the supernatural turns out to be relevant, thus setting a completely different ground for literary representation.

El hecho de que las dos narraciones se publicaran juntas ha dado pie a que se las relacione, y de hecho la inclusión del nexo en el título, El sur seguido de Bene, sugiere algún tipo de continuidad, y también las declaraciones de la propia escritora respecto a ellas pueden dar lugar a interpretaciones que, en mi opinión, dejan de lado importantes diferencias 1
Cristina Martínez-Carazo señalaba acertadamente que el mismo acto de enunciación supone un punto de partida diferente: mientras que en la película se parte del amor paterno-filial, en el texto narrativo el punto de partida es ya el desamor, un momento posterior a la ruptura de la fascinación del padre, cuando la joven ya ha comenzado a vivir su propia vida, y ha adquirido un conocimiento basado en la soledad y el abandono, según puede inferirse muchas veces de lo no dicho 3

This article is intended to study the two first stories by Adelaida García Morales, El sur and Bene, as examples of lyric ‘novels of formation’ (Bildungsroman). Hasta ahora contamos con cierto número de artículos y con algunos trabajos extensos que se dedican a alguna novela de Adelaida García Morales, o al conjunto de su narrativa, pero quizá gracias a la película que realizó Víctor Erice, su obra más popular sigue siendo El sur, que se publicó junto a otro relato muy poco conocido, Bene.
