Abstract

The percutaneous closure of the left atrial appendage has been developed as a therapeutic alternative in patients with atrial fibrillation and have contraindications for prolonged anticoagulation. It can also be for those that do not achieve adequate anticoagulation, not only due to abandonment, a perception of high risk of bleeding, an intolerance to oral anticoagulants, or difficult to control anticoagulant, but also when there is a high risk of haemorrhage, as can occur in coronary stents, and when there are rational contraindications, such as a high risk of falls. The echocardiography images, sometimes complemented with computed tomography, are most important for the anatomical precision required for choosing the correct equipment and as guide for endovascular implantation.
