Abstract
V prispevku avtor skuša razložiti, na kaj je treba pri etimologiji imen predvsem paziti: treba je do zadnjih podrobnosti poznati narečje in pokrajino, kjer so imena, ki jih raziskujemo, ter zbrati čim več primerov (tudi iz drugih dežel). Prav tako je treba poznati zgodovino kraja, zgodovinske dokumente. Pogosto so lahko odločilne drobne narečne posebnosti. Ob slovanskih imenskih značilnosti pa je pri številnih imenih treba upoštevati tudi križanje z romanskimi in germanskimi.
