Abstract

This article is the first in a series describing the work carried out by Imaging Science Group members who have gained an Imaging Science Qualification. The Royal Photographic Society Imaging Scientist Qualifications provide a structure leading to professional qualifications for engineers, scientists and technologists whose professional activities are concerned with quantitative or mechanic aspects of imaging systems or their applications. The qualifications may be gained by candidates working within relatively narrow specializations, but their achievements will require a range of widely applicable professional skills. Members who acquire an Imaging Scientist Qualification will also receive a Society Distinction. There are four levels of qualification ranging from Qualified Imaging Scientist (QIS) through to Accredited Senior Imaging Scientist (ASIS). Further details of the qualifications and application process can be obtained from the details given at the end of this article. We encourage all members currently working in an imaging science area (these are broad and diverse) to apply for these respected and increasingly recognized qualifications.
