Yet sometimes, the scatterers, even properly imaged, are masked by dominating specular reflections. To enhance the images of scatterers, we propose to create supplementary data cube where the specular component is attenuated relative to the scattered component. For this, we elaborate a special technique which is, basically, a Kirchhoff migration with weighting function modified by inclusion of an additional taper with controlled parameters. We illustrate through a field data example that the technique can essentially enhance seismic images of scattering objects.Permalink: https://doi.org/10.1190/1.1851082FiguresReferencesRelatedDetailsCited ByPlane-Wave Destruction-Based Workflow for Prestack Diffraction Separation in the Shot Domain5 May 2022 | Pure and Applied Geophysics, Vol. 74Effective diffraction separation using the improved optimal rank-reduction methodPeng Lin, Suping Peng, Xiaoqin Cui, Wenfeng Du, and Chuangjian Li23 February 2022 | GEOPHYSICS, Vol. 87, No. 3Identifying Discontinuities by Extracting Diffractivity from Migrated Seismic Profiles1 March 2022 | Pure and Applied Geophysics, Vol. 179, No. 4Extraction of diffractions from seismic data using convolutional U-net and transfer learningSooyoon Kim, Soon Jee Seol, Joongmoo Byun, and Seokmin Oh27 January 2022 | GEOPHYSICS, Vol. 87, No. 2Imaging Diffractions Using a Double-Order Weight Function24 February 2022 | Pure and Applied Geophysics, Vol. 179, No. 3A Probabilistic Approach to Seismic Diffraction Imaging23 October 2021 | Lithosphere, Vol. 2021, No. 1Pre‐migration diffraction separation using generative adversarial networks19 April 2021 | Geophysical Prospecting, Vol. 69, No. 5Diffraction imaging using a mathematical morphological filter with a time-varying structuring elementChuangjian Li, Jingtao Zhao, Suping Peng, and Yanxin Zhou11 March 2021 | GEOPHYSICS, Vol. 86, No. 3Prestack diffraction separation in the common virtual source gatherChuangjian Li, Jingtao Zhao, Suping Peng, and Xiaoqin Cui9 February 2021 | GEOPHYSICS, Vol. 86, No. 2Least-squares imaging of diffractions by solving a hybrid L1-L2 norm minimization problemJingtao Zhao, Caixia Yu, Suping Peng, and Jingjie Cao7 January 2021 | GEOPHYSICS, Vol. 86, No. 1Extraction of diffraction events from seismic data using deep learning-based approachSooyoon Kim, Soon Jee Seol, Joongmoo Byun, Jiho Park, and Seokmin Oh30 September 2020Separating diffraction in the shot domainChuangjian Li, Suping Peng, Rushan Wu, and Jingtao Zhao30 September 2020Least-squares diffraction imaging using shaping regularization by anisotropic smoothingDmitrii Merzlikin, Sergey Fomel, and Xinming Wu11 September 2020 | GEOPHYSICS, Vol. 85, No. 5Diffraction imaging using the two-way imaging conditionDongliang Zhang, Tong W.
