Abstract

The ability to obtain quantitative planar laserinduced fluorescence (PLIF) measurements in a highpressure combustor would represent a significant advance in the application of laser diagnostics to practical combustion systems. To simulate the combustion environment of a gas-turbine engine, an opticallyaccessible high-pressure combustor has been constructed. The combustor facility incorporates a production liquid-fuel injector and a preheated air supply. In this paper, we demonstrate the feasibility of instantaneous OH PLIF measurements in spray flames of heptane and Jet-A fuel at pressures up to 20 atm. Observations of OH PLIF images at a range of pressures and overall equivalence ratios are presented.
