Abstract

The advantages, disadvantages, and cost-effectiveness of the imaging modalities used to diagnose extracranial occlusive vascular disease vary widely. The following article presents the characteristics and quality issues related to each imaging modality currently used to evaluate extracranial occlusive vascular disease. The purpose is to aid the surgeon in choosing or tailoring an imaging paradigm to maximize the quality of patient care in a cost-effective manner.
