Abstract

Systematic azimuthal variation in the input data for 3-D dip moveout (3DDMO) can compromise the illumination of the subsurface, produce imaging artifacts, and cause amplitude variation in the output 3DDMO traces. A simple graphical method allows easy visualization of the subsurface illumination at a dip moveout (DMO) output location for any set of input data. The same method permits selection or construction of sets of input data that illuminate all subsurface reflectors with no redundancy.
