Imaging characteristics of multiple unusual urogenital abnormalities in an incontinent dog

Abstract

AbstractA 10‐month‐old, female, neutered Rottweiler was referred for further investigation of lifelong urinary incontinence. On abdominal ultrasonography, the urinary bladder was empty with asymmetrical wall thickening. Cystoscopy revealed a wide and short tubular connection from the vestibule to a poorly distensible bladder, with no distinct identifiable urethral papilla or urethra. The ureters were observed opening into what was thought to be the bladder trigone, but a third opening was additionally noted cranial to the ureterovesical junctions. A hypoplastic urethra and a stenotic vaginal opening were found on a fluoroscopic retrograde vaginourethrocystogram. Histopathology of bladder wall biopsies revealed mild neutrophilic inflammation. The urinary incontinence was attributed to a combination of severe anatomic abnormalities. No treatment was pursued.
