Abstract

Hydrogeochemical surveys were conducted as a part of uranium exploration around the city of Jabalpur and adjacent areas. The present study aimed for integrating geology structures and their quality assessments. Hydrogeochemical images show spatial distribution of physicochemical parameters (pH, electrical conductivity and total hardness (TH)], cations (Rn, Na, K, Ca, Mg, U,) and anions (Cl, CO3, HCO3, SO4, PO4). The varying chemical constituents of groundwater are due to water–rock interaction processes like dissolution, ion exchange, sorption–desorption along the hydraulic gradients and surface slope variation. The groundwater is partially suitable for drinking purposes and public health because the higher concentrations of total dissolved solids (TDS), TH, Ca, Mg, U and Rn, whereas it is suitable for irrigation and livestock. Sodium %, sodium adsorption ratio (SAR), potential salinity, permeability index, Mg ratio and chloro-alkaline index have been determined for irrigation suitability. The corrosivity ratio is calculated to determine the pipes to be used for the water supply lines. The dominant hydrogeochemical facies are HCO3 Ca-Mg type.
