Abstract

The article is an analysis of "Havarie" by Philip Scheffner as a picture about the very process of making pictures of refugees. The author applies the perspective of visual culture studies to argue with instrumentalisation of representations, which is typical for social psychology, and to question simple differentiation between humanitarian and non-human images of refugees.
