Abstract

In the presence of hip pain, the imaging assessment is always guided by the clinical examination and starts with radiography. If it is not conclusive and if the clinical examination leads to a coxopathy, arthro-CT will be favored for the investigation of focal chondral lesion or in case of suspicion of capsulitis, arthro-CT or arthro-MRI in the assessment of a femoro-acetabular conflict, the MRI in the assessment of a villo-nodular synovitis, arthro-CT or MRI in synovial chondromatosis. In case of suspicion of osteopathy (fracture, necrosis, algodystrophy, tumor…), the MRI is in first line. If periarticular pathology is suspected, ultrasound is the best choice unless the patient's morphotype or the depth of the anatomical structure potentially affected makes him prefer MRI.
