Abstract

AbstractRecent advances in quantitative imaging allow unprecedented views into organ function and cellular chemistry of whole organisms in vivo. Novel imaging modalities enable the quantitative investigation of spatio-temporal reaction and transport phenomena in the living animal or the human body. Quantitative imaging modalities enable quantitative analysis with image-based computational fluid dynamics (iCFD). This methodology integrates medical imaging modalities with rigorous computational fluid dynamics. The future potential of patient-specific therapy design with iCFD will be illustrated with three case studies. This chapter will highlight the growing opportunities of patient-specific therapy design made possible by the advancement of quantitative medical imaging modalities in combination with mathematical modeling. Conclusions will emphasize on future steps towards individualized medicine using iCFD methods.KeywordsBiomedical engineeringQuantitative medical imagingImage-based computational fluid dynamics
