Abstract

Motivated by the importance of Humanvisual system (HVS) in image processing, we propose anovel Image signature based mean square error (ISMSE)metric for full reference Image quality assessment (IQA).Efficient image signature based describer is used to predictvisual saliency map of the reference image. The saliencymap is incorporated into luminance difference between thereference and distorted images to obtain image qualityscore. The effect of luminance difference on visual qualitywith larger saliency value which is usually correspondingto foreground objects is highlighted. Experimental resultson LIVE database release 2 show that by integrating theeffects of image signature based saliency on luminance difference, the proposed ISMSE metric outperforms severalstate-of-the-art HVS-based IQA metrics but with lowercomplexity.
