Abstract

The geometrical-optical aberrations and optical performance characteristics of an aerial wide-angle camera were determined for comparison of aberrations and image quality criteria. The focal length, spherical aberration, coma, field curvature, astigmatism, influence of defocusing on the axis on resolving power (RP) and modulation transfer function (MTF) in 5 image planes for 7 field angles were determined for this lens in the Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt (PTB), Braunschweig. The geometrical properties, RP and MTF were determined for the same lens using the Helsinki University of Technology (HUT) goniometer. The half-photographic MTF measuring method used in Helsinki gave an average, values 3 to 10% greater than those of the standard method used in Braunschweig.
