Abstract
The approach of image processing of underground working face photographs using the system for image processing and analysis LUCIA is given. There are given image analysis examples of different types of geological structures in a rock profile. The method was verified by pictures of tunnel faces and by artificial outcrops. This method is relatively inexpensive and applicable for daily geotechnical practice and for an assessment of properties for advance of boom tunnelling machines and prediction of their cutting performance.
