Abstract
Image processing: what is it? ‘The future’ would be the glib response of many. A more mundane description, without wishing to be too obvious, would be that image processing is the computerised recording, storage, indexing, retrieval and display of images — or any workable combination of these processes. Again stating the obvious, some combinations are not possible: for example if an image has not been stored then it's difficult to see how it can be retrieved!
