Abstract
Introduction - Image intensifier systems developed during recent years are capable of amplifying very dim images produced on a phosphor screen located at the bottom of the column. 1,2 This has permitted reduction of beam current and/or accelerating potential, thereby extending the life of some types of specimens as well as providing other benefits. This paper points out limitations inherent in conventional intensification systems and describes a system designed to improve performance.
