Abstract

Historically the electronics manufacturing market has relied on a combination of human visual inspection and electrical test methods to ensure product quality. With the advent of the personal computer, the use of machine vision in industrial applications gradually became more common. The process where optical sensors (i.e., cameras) are used to make specific pass/fail decisions is usually described as Automated Optical Inspection (AOI). There are discussed problems of designing AOI system in this paper. The main goal is to select most efficient image analysis algorithm and to study other parameters that have impact on designing a reliable AOI system.
