Abstract

In our day to day life with the increasing popularity among wirelessly connected devices, the wireless data traffic is growing exponentially. As a result, the network spectral efficiency has been saturated despite of new standards and great technological advancements. Visible Light Communication (VLC) using solid-state lighting to transmit information will be the best solution for wireless communication in the upcoming years. In promote of artificial illumination and communication the Light Emitting Diode (LED) lighting is progressively finding its way. The LED lighting lodges high switching times that are adequate to transmit data through the visible light it emanate. In addition to that it’s able to achieve dimming control through the dimming modulation schemes in VLC. Dimming LEDs used indoors provides energy saving. In this paper, the channel performance in terms of data rate and spectral efficiency for pulse width modulation (PWM) based digital dimming modulation techniques to dim the LEDs installed indoors under VLC have been computed.
