Abstract

Of 12 patients with contracted bladders due to interstitial, chronic, or tuberculous cystitis, none had a bladder capacity exceeding 150 ml. Ten patients underwent patch ileocystoplasties, and 2 had the “cup” variant. In none was any portion of the detrusor excised other than for biopsy; consequently, ureteral reimplantation was not necessary. Over-all results in a follow-up period extending from six months to four and one-half years were judged to be excellent in 58 per cent, good in 25 per cent, and fair in 17 per cent.
