Abstract
German sociology a hundred years ago. A hundred years ago, a young philosopher published his first work entitled Gemeinschaft und Gesellschaft, i.e. Community and Society. 1887 is a symbolical date : the birth of German sociological and of two fundamental sociolgogical concepts, community and society. It also means the beginning of the development of a theoretical and critical sociology in Germany. Community and society appear in Tôn-nies’work as antagonistic concepts. They consequently led to ideological instead of sociological interpretations in Germany, in the years 1900-1930. However, Tönnies’ work is at present of major scientific interest.
