Abstract

Flashbulb memory (FBM) has been defined as a vivid and detailed memory of the circumstances under which one first learned of a consequential, and emotionally involving event (Brown e Kulik, 1977).The aim of the present study was to investigate FBM formation and maintenance for a political event, such as the news that the left wing politician Niki Vendola had been elected President of Italian Region of Puglia. Participants were expected to have FBMs after an emotional political event. Additionally, FBM and memory for the event for participants belonging to the left-wing political party were expected to be more consistent, detailed and accurate as compared to those of participants with right-wing affiliations. Moreover, emotional and social reactions to the news were expected to vary for different political groups as a function of the importance given to the event within each social group.
