Abstract
Abstract This article clarifies what was meant by ‘Mixolydian,’ that is, which sequence of intervals and, possibly, of sounds could be associated with this designation. Its aim is to search for traces of the authors who invented, modified, or preferred to use this ἁρμονία, in order both to study its use from the Archaic period to the end of the Classical period and to position it within our general knowledge of the history of ancient Greek music.
