Abstract

Chronic school absenteeism is relatively common in childhood and adolescence. Most of the children with this behaviour remain at home with the awareness of their parents and complain physical symptoms as the reason for their behaviour. Paediatricians should be aware of the medical, familiar and social conditions more frequently associated with chronic school absenteeism and should learn the best way to approach affected children and their parents.
