Abstract

Purpose: Hyaluronan (HA)-binding protein involved in HA depolymerization (HYBID), alias cell migration-inducing protein (CEMIP) and KIAA1199, plays a key role in HA degradation. Although HYBID is expressed by rheumatoid synovial lining and sub-lining cells, little is known about cellular localization of HYBID in osteoarthritic synovial tissue. Transmembrane protein 2 (TMEM2), a transmembrane protein with sequence similarity to HYBID, is reportedly a hyaluronidase in mice. However, no studies have shown the expression or functional role of TMEM2 in human tissues.
