Abstract
Objectives: Hypertensive patients (HTs) develop arterial and cardiac damage (TOD) which is a marker of cardiovascular-CV-morbidity. Inflammatory activation is also an important determinant of cardiovascular status. Interleukin-18 (IL-18), a strong predictor of CV disease and death, has been related to plaque progression and vulnerability. We investigated whether IL-18 plays a role in TOD development in the arteries and heart in an essential hypertensive population.
