Abstract

Objective To investigate the expression of IKCa in cavernous tissue of rat with diabetes mellitus (DM). Methods All of 35 male Sprague-Dawley rats were divided into 2 groups:control group (n=10) , DM group (n=25). After 8 weeks erection function was examined by apomorphine (APO) injection. The expression of IKCa was detected by reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) and Western blot, respectively. Results Compared with the control group and STZ group, the erection function and expression of IKCa mRNA and protein were significantly decreased in the DM group (P 0. 05). Conclusion DM can obviously inhibit IKCa gene and protein expression. The decrease of IKCa gene and protein expression in the cavernous tissue might play a key role in the development of erectile dysfunction in DM rats. Key words: Diabetes mellitus; Erectile dysfunction; Corpus cavemosum; Potassium channels
