Abstract

Since late 90s, a significant change in practice of Security Council (Council) has reinforced humanitarian capital introduction in peacekeeping. Each year, Council adopted resolutions on theme of protection of civilians in armed conflicts in order to improve physical and legal protection of civilians in hostilities. There are three broad types of resolutions on this theme: those title which specify the protection of civilians in armed conflict, those called women, peace and international security and those called children in armed conflicts . To simplify analysis, this chapter refers to resolutions on protection of civilians in armed conflict as a generic term for these three types of resolutions. This chapter aims to analyze thematic resolutions on protection of civilians in armed conflict and also illustrate intertwining of humanitarian (broadly defined) and peacekeeping. The original text of this chapter is in German. Keywords: UN Security Council; armed conflicts; international security; peacekeeping
