Abstract

In our first publication1on the lymphatic glands in early syphilis we reported our studies on the inguinal nodes with reference to the occurrence of a tuberculoid structure. At that time we had examined nodes from twenty-nine untreated syphilitic patients and found a tuberculoid structure in eight of the preparations examined. In the next year,2we continued our investigations along the same lines and increased the total number of specimens examined to fifty, which were divided as noted in the accompanying tables. It will be noted that the percentage of glands showing tuberculoid reaction was found to be fairly constant for the three years' work. Since our article was published, Zurhelle3has commented on the publication and has referred to literature4that had previously related the observations of giant cells in sections of lymphatic glands in early syphilis.
