Abstract

Much has been written about the use of external skeletal fixation for the treatment of nearly every type of fracture, and about the mechanical characteristics of different frames. There are still controversial areas concerning the indications for the use of this method, the frame to be selected, and surrounding common problems that present themselves during treatment. In this review, some of these controversies will be discussed.
