Abstract
Radical views on heuristics and biases, and more generally, non-optimal patterns of human judgement, construe them either as an unwelcome mental handicap or a great evolution-based advantage. A more moderate position recognizes both sides, depending on the context and the situation at hand. This paper suggests that at least in some cases, apparently unsound human judgment can be viewed as a hallmark of true intelligence, enabling its major insights while also making it so hard to analyze and fully comprehend.
