Abstract

A brief review is presented of the work performed at the VNIIEF Center (Arzamas 16, Russia) on physical problems relevant to the design of targets for heavy-ion inertial fusion. Target design topics dealt with include indirect-drive schemes, symmetry issues, development of concepts for achieving ignition in the presence of a certain degree of asymmetry. In addition, material properties (such as opacities) are studied both theoretically and experimentally. Recent work on turbulent mixing is also discussed.
