Abstract

Software users demand cheaper software, faster deliveries, and reliable products, whereas software developers seek to minimize the development cost and maximize the profit margin by simultaneously meeting the competitive requirements. This calls for a trade-off between the conflicting objectives of reliability and cost. Component-based software system (CBSS) approach of software development can reduce the development time and thereby provides a reliable system within the limited budget. In CBSS approach, different software components are integrated to form a complete system. These software components can be either purchased from the software vendors or can also be built within the organization. This work aims at proposing a framework for evaluation and selection of software components. The proposed framework is termed as “IFSOM” (intuitionistic fuzzy set and optimization model).
