Abstract

This book, written by a husband-and-wife team of defense industry writers, lets readers join the couple as they tour Cold War weapons projects throughout the world, from Sandia National Laboratories in Albuquerque to the Kwajalein atoll in the Marshall Islands, and to the Semipalatinsk Test Site in Kazakhstan and beyond. This book contains as much history as a college text, but is delivered in the form of jaunty, you-are-there travel writing big on local color. With a tone that is neither pro- nor antinuclear, the book succeeds in its attempt to resurrect the nuclear dialogue. It would make a good beach book for engineers.
