Abstract

Iemanja is the goddess of the seas in African culture and her cult has had multiple repercussions in Latin America, mainly in popular culture. In this article I will make an approach from different creators and present how the Cuban Lydia Cabrera, the French Pierre Verger or the Brazilian Jorge Amado recreate it literarily; as artists such as Dorival Caymmi, Celia Cruz or Alexandre Carlo have sung to him. The theoretical approach will be based on the multidisciplinary, based on the proposal of the teacher Antonio Candido: “Critique of slopes”. It will be important to show the coincidences and divergences in the representations of this African deity. The proposal will consist of glimpsing: what are the mythological and fictional characters used among the authors?
