Abstract

This paper describes the planning and execution of IEEE SIGHT Hits The Road, a series of Humanitarian Technology workshops conducted in strategic areas around Indonesia. While Indonesia is a sprawling archipelago with a vast potential for humanitarian technology applications, awareness of the role of IEEE in humanitarian technologies are still low, especially in less developed areas. The workshops are intended to accelerate the growth of humanitarian technology community and activities by building awareness, motivation, and know how for humanitarian technology applications through IEEE. A key motivating factor for this roadshow is that currently IEEE leadership, membership and humanitarian technology activities in Indonesia are relatively centered in major universities in larger cities. This is in contrast to Indonesia's geographic spread and vast potential for humanitarian technology development and applications. The workshop topics include (1) basics of humanitarian technologies development and applications, (2) How IEEE are involved in humanitarian technology development and applications, especially through HAC and SIGHT groups, grants and other programs, and (3) a more hands-on workshop on how to locally grow and implement humanitarian technologies. The workshops have been done on two cities, Bandung and Denpasar
